Maweninga Tented Camp

Maweninga is a great choice if you want a reasonably-priced camp within Tarangire National Park’s main game viewing area, yet in an elevated and secluded spot.  Sit by the campfire and relish the stunning views.

Maweninga is fantastically located in a game rich area in the north west of Tarangire National Park, about 9kms from Sangaiwe Gate, yet away from the main thoroughfare. The camp has a feeling of a proper bush camp with minimal impact to the environment, as each room has been constructed cleverly into the surrounding rock kopjes which form part of a number of the rooms. The view from each of the well-spaced rooms is special, but the best view is from the main terrace area complete with firepit. What a spot for sundowners!

Why Stay?

The stand-out features of Maweninga are firstly the fact it is located inside the National Park, so you are on a game drive from the moment you leave camp, indeed often before, as there are often wild animals around camp; and secondly that the camp has a wonderful elevated position partly on ancient granite boulders (kopjes) giving you stunning views of the park.
Tarangire is well known for its elephants, has a good diversity of wildlife including predators such lions and leopards, and characterful baobab trees dot the landscape.
Birdlife around camp is also very good as there is a lot of scrubland and trees as well as the rock kopjes, so if you are a keen birder have your binoculars at the ready.

Times to Go

Tarangire has something to offer the wildlife enthusiast all year round, especially elephants lovers. The very best months are deemed to be the driest months (July-October), as this is when wildlife is drawn to the park from many miles around to drink at the permanent water source of the Tarangire River, however we have found that we’ve seen good wildlife here even at other times of year.
