Northern Tanzania Highlights
7 days from £3,720 pp plus international flights.
Our exciting classic northern Tanzania safari not only takes you to Tarangire and the famous Ngorongoro Crater, but also gives you the best chance possible to see the migration in the Serengeti due to the camps we’ve chosen at different times of the year.
Whether a first-timer or an experienced safari hand, you will find plenty to capture your imagination and set your pulse racing on this week long safari in northern Tanzania, and it’s mostly with your own private guide and vehicle, making it exclusively yours*.
The holiday concentrates on three prime game viewing locations: Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. You experience varied scenery as you have morning and afternoon 4x4 drives to observe the plentiful wildlife, with photo opportunities a-plenty. The proximity of these areas means they combine well, and time travelling between them offers you more wildlife viewing.
We have selected small, comfy camps in Tarangire and Serengeti, with traditional tented accommodation and bucket showers, where you enjoy convivial communal meals and end the day around the campfire in true safari style. Your lodge in Ngorongoro is perched on the crater rim for superb views into the vast caldera, and is perfectly situated for watching glorious sunsets.
At the end of the holiday you won’t believe how much you’ve seen and experienced in just one week. And if you were a first-timer at the start, you’re now well on the way to becoming a safari addict!
*In July to October you will be sharing game drives in northern Serengeti.
- Wildlife viewing in Ngorongoro Crater
- The wilds of the Serengeti
- High chances of seeing the annual Wildebeest Migration
- Tarangire, great for elephants and baobab trees

You are met on arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport by your private guide and vehicle, and set off through Arusha for a game drive in Tarangire National Park, stopping to enjoy a picnic on the way. Keep your eyes open for wildlife including large numbers of elephant. Journey’s end is Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge where you spend the next 2 nights. Lunch, dinner
DAY 2: ON SAFARI IN TARANGIRE
You have a full day to spend in the national park, giving you ample time to observe game and capture some excellent wildlife photos taken against the backdrop of mighty baobab trees. You also have the chance to join a Maasai guide on a botanical walk to learn about the medicinal properties of local plants and gain an insight into the Maasai way of life. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 3: ON SAFARI IN NGORONGORO CRATER
Today you are driven to the famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are forests, lakes and open grasslands where animals including the Big 5 and plains game roam, and is a good area for bird watching. In the early evening you head back to the crater rim and your accommodation for the night, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 4: TO THE SERENGETI
It’s time to head for the Serengeti. The name alone conjures a picture of open plains and game. If you are staying in Ndutu in the south (December to March) you stay with your private guide and stop at Olduvai Gorge, famed for the fossil remains of early man.
If travelling to northern Serengeti (July to October) you leave your private guide and fly to Kogatende airstrip where a guide from the next camp will meet you. Both journeys conclude with a game drive and arrive in camp in the early evening. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 5: ON SAFARI IN SERENGETI
Awake excited at the prospect of a full day in Serengeti. Depending on the time of year you’ll either be in the Ndutu area in the south or in the north near the Mara River. Either way the game should be plentiful and you are in the best location to hopefully view the famed migration. It’s a true spectacle, with herds of wildebeest and zebra, and predators not far away, nature in all its raw power. Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Another chance to experience the thrills of the wilderness. If you’re in luck and see the migration, the sheer scale is mind-blowing. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you. Breakfast, lunch, dinner

North or south Serengeti?
Deciding when to travel on this safari depends on either simply when you’re able to get away, or if you’d prefer to see the north or the south of the Serengeti. The Serengeti experience is different north to south.
If you travel July to October, you’ll be heading to the north of the park which is where the migration should be at this time. You stand a chance of seeing river crossings during these months. You take shared drives on this section of the trip.
If you travel from December to the end of March, your Serengeti camp will be in the south as this is where the migration will be closest to at this time. You won’t get any river crossings, but around February it’s calving time. You will keep your private driver/guide on this section if you’re in the south.
