Safari and beach for the connoisseur. This holiday takes in two of Tanzania’s best safari destinations, Ruaha National Park and Selous Game Reserve. They offer the twin benefits of varied wildlife and no crowds. You fly in, enjoying magnificent views, and stay in intimate sister camps, luxurious yet pleasantly low key. Each day you have morning and afternoon safaris by vehicle and on foot, and also by boat in Selous, filled with delightful and sometimes moving sights and encounters, all led by expert guides. There’s ample time to relax in camp, to talk to fellow guests, cool off with a swim and enjoy the delicious food.
Your busy safari days are balanced by time to unwind on the Swahili coast. Ras Kutani is has the same laidback charm, enhanced here by the sea breeze and views of the Indian Ocean. Relaxation comes easy: walk barefoot along the beach, doze in a hammock on your veranda, enjoy a massage in the spa and sample the freshest fish and seafood as you dine by the beach beneath the star-filled African sky.

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN DAR AND FLY TO JONGOMERO CAMP IN RUAHA
Your flight from Dar es Salaam to Ruaha takes about 3 hours, possibly with a stop or two en-route. At the airstrip you are met and driven Jongomero Camp, arriving in time for lunch. Later you set off on your first game drive in the national park, whetting your appetite for the next few days. You are back in camp to shower and change for dinner. Lunch, dinner
DAY 2: ON SAFARI IN RUAHA
Rising early is the custom on safari to depart in the relatively cool morning temperatures when animals are more active. Ruaha has a great diversity of game and is known for its predators which include lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena, so safaris here are always exciting. Typically you spend the hottest part of the day resting in camp, then set off into the park once more in the late afternoon. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 3: ON SAFARI IN RUAHA
You may have the chance to go for a dawn walk with the guide, a chance to get close to nature and take time to notice the finer details and smaller creatures often overlooked from a vehicle. On your return enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool and in the afternoon you have another game drive, returning to camp for sundowner drinks and dinner. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 4: FLY TO SELOUS
After breakfast you fly from Jongomero to Selous, arriving at Siwandu Camp in the early afternoon to a warm welcome and delicious lunch. Replete and rested you can choose between a game drive, boat trip or guided walk for your first exploration of Selous. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 5: ON SAFARI IN SELOUS
This morning you head out on safari to experience the reserve’s wide open spaces. Seek out elephant, giraffe and as Selous has the highest numbers of wild dog of any park in Africa, you may spot some of these elusive creatures. After lunch you can take a boat ride on lake Nzerakera, watching crocodiles and hippos, and later enjoying a sundowner drink. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 6: ON SAFARI IN SELOUS
Why not begin the day with a walk led by a guide and accompanied by an armed ranger? Immerse yourself in nature as you learn about the intricacies of the ecosystem, it’s eye-opening and fascinating. This afternoon take a final game drive in the reserve for a chance to see the varied wildlife, heading back to camp as light begins to fade. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 7: FLY TO DAR AND TRANSFER TO RAS KUTANI
There should be time for an early boat ride or game drive before you drive to the airstrip for the flight to Dar es Salaam, and from here you’re driven south for 90 minutes to Ras Kutani. This lovely lodge looks out over the Indian Ocean and is the ideal place to unwind after your busy days on safari. Breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 8: ON THE COAST
Wake to the sound of the ocean breeze outside your cottage and stroll out onto your veranda to take in the sea views. You may want to do little more today than enjoy the tranquillity, laze on a sunlounger, swim in the pool, go for a walk along the deserted beach and treat yourself to the freshest seafood. DAY 9: ON THE COAST
There’s plenty to do should you wish: go kayaking in the freshwater lagoon, don snorkelling gear to explore a local shipwreck, go for a walk in the forest behind Ras Kutani where birds, butterflies and no fewer than 4 species of monkey can be seen, visit the local village or enjoy a massage at the spa. DAY 10: TRANSFER TO DAR ES SALAAM AND DEPART
Enjoy your final morning by the ocean before travelling back to Dar es Salaam to connect to your onward or homeward flight. Breakfast
